The short version

We hold your email address and the practice profile you give us, so we can decide what to send you. We do not sell it, we do not advertise to you, and we do not send your data or the documents we process to any third-party AI service. You can delete everything yourself, at any time, from the link in any issue.

What we hold, and why

DataWhy
Email addressTo send the digest and confirm you asked for it. Without it there is no product.
Name, if you give oneTo address you. Optional.
Language, cadence, delivery channelHow and how often you want the issue.
Practice profile — jurisdictions, practice areas, content types, court levels, importance threshold, and the free-text description of your practice This is what the selection runs on. The free-text field is used to build the matching vocabulary for your issues; write as much or as little as you like.
Which linked sources you open To adjust ranking towards what you actually read. The effect is capped at ±20% of an item's score.
Sign-in events and issues sent So a link cannot be replayed indefinitely, and so we do not send you the same item twice.

Legal basis

Consent, given at signup and confirmed by clicking the link we email you. You may withdraw it at any time; withdrawing does not affect processing that already happened.

Automated processing

Classification, summarisation and selection are automatic. They run on a language model hosted on our own hardware — no subscriber data and no document text is sent to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic or any other model provider. Nothing we do produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you: the outcome is which public legal items appear in your issue.

Who else sees it

No payment processor is involved while Birbyne is free. If paid plans are introduced, the payment provider will be named here before any charge, and card details will be handled by that provider — never by us.

Where it is held

What you type into the signup form is written to our web host, Hostinger, and is not readable from the web. From there it moves into our own database, which runs on hardware we control rather than on a cloud platform. Email is delivered through Resend, which may process it outside the EEA under that provider's transfer safeguards.

How long

For as long as you are subscribed. If you never confirm your address, the row is removed within 30 days. When you delete your account, your subscriber record, preferences, engagement history, delivery history, sign-in events and any waitlist entry are all removed — not flagged as deleted, removed. That is checked by an automated test against the database schema.

Backups are the exception, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise. The database is backed up nightly. A backup taken before your deletion still contains your record until that backup ages out, which takes at most 14 days, after which it is destroyed. Backups are used for one thing only: restoring the service after a failure.

Your rights

You can see and change your profile from the link in any issue, and delete everything from the same page. Under the GDPR you also have the right to access a copy of your data, to correct it, to object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to your national supervisory authority. Write to us and we will answer.
